Wind Energy Project in Gujarat, India

This wind energy project was commissioned by Vish Wind Infrastructure LLP and consists of 63 wind turbine generators of 800kW each, forming a combined capacity of 50.4 MW. The project activity generates electricity for the state grid of Gujarat and helps reduce the energy demand-supply gap in the state and contributes to sustainable growth by providing clean and green electricity.

The project is located at Kutch and Lalpur site in Kutch & Jamnagar district respectively, in the state of Gujarat, India

The project utilizes 63 Wind Energy Converters (WECs) with a capacity of 0.8 MW each, for a total installed capacity of 50.4 MW. The generated electricity is fed into the Indian grid, improving Gujarat's power supply.

This project presents a compelling opportunity to contribute to a sustainable future for Gujarat. By fostering a cleaner environment, creating jobs, strengthening the local electricity grid, and promoting economic development, it paves the way for a more prosperous future for the region.

Project Impacts and Benefits

The Wind Energy Project in Gujurat, India serves as a catalyst for sustainable development in the region by promoting:

Social Well-being:

Infrastructure Development and Grid Strengthening: The project has led to the development of essential infrastructure, such as road networks, within the wind farm location. This improved accessibility, along with a strengthened local grid, benefits the local population by enhancing electricity availability.

Poverty Alleviation: Job creation (direct and indirect) during construction and operation of the wind farm provides economic opportunities and improves livelihoods for local communities.

Energy Security: By harnessing a clean and renewable energy source like wind power, the project reduces dependence on imported fossil fuels and associated price fluctuations, leading to increased energy security for Gujarat.

Environmental Well-being:

Clean Energy Generation: Wind power is a clean and renewable resource that generates electricity without emitting harmful gaseous, liquid, or solid waste products, unlike fossil fuel-based power plants.

Resource Conservation: Wind energy is a sustainable resource, and its utilization helps conserve finite resources for future generations. The project contributes to a cleaner environment with minimal negative environmental impact.

Economic Well-being:

Job Creation: The project creates job opportunities for skilled, semi-skilled, and temporary workers during construction and operation phases, providing a much-needed economic boost to the region.

Grid Strengthening: The generated electricity is fed into the local grid, improving grid stability and electricity availability for local consumers (villages and sub-urban areas). This enhanced grid infrastructure can pave the way for the establishment of new industries and economic activities, leading to further local employment and overall development.

Contribution to Technological Wellbeing:

The project technology enhances the propagation of commercialization of wind turbines in the region.

The project leads to the promotion of renewable energy generation by wind, demonstrating the success of wind turbine generators in the region. The power generated from the project improves energy availability and quality in the surrounding areas.

Alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

The project demonstrates a verified contribution to the following Sustainable Development Goals:

SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy: By generating clean electricity through wind power, the project directly addresses this goal.

SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth: Job creation and economic activity stimulation through the project align with this goal.

SDG 13: Climate Action: Wind energy generation significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional power generation, thus combating climate change.
